U.S. Has "Double Standard" On Syrian Terrorism, China Charges

Chinese news agency Xinhua hones in on the open
secret that the Syrian opposition is full of terrorists. As “more
and more evidence further indicated that terrorists were involved
in the anti-government conflict in Syria, world media, political
figures and experts were shocked and began criticizing the U.S.
government for taking double standards on the issue of
terrorism.”
The charges of terrorism in Syria have been made by some of
the highest figures within the U.S. defense establishment. “As
early as February, U.S. Director of National Intelligence James
Clapper told a Congressional hearing that there were “all the
earmarks of an al-Qaeda-like attack” in a series of bombings
against security and intelligence targets in Syria’s capital city
Damascus.”
“Then in May, U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta
confirmed, ‘We do have intelligence that indicates that there is
an al-Qaeda presence in Syria.’”
The professionally carried out bombing in Damascus on July
18, in which several generals in the government army were killed
including Syria’s Defense Minister, shocked the world. “But the
U.S. government reaction to the terrorist attacks was quite
remarkable or puzzling,” Xinhua noted. The U.S. statement on the
incident did not contain any condemnation of the terrorist
attacks. U.S. President Barack Obama, on the contrary, blamed
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for what had happened, saying
that “the death of the ministers were the consequences of his
policy.” And likewise State Department spokeswoman Victoria
Nuland said the attacks on Syrian top officers and officials were
“not surprising.”
“‘When al-Qaeda attacked American target, the U.S. claimed
it an enemy; but when it appeared in Syria, the U.S. chose to
keep silence,’ said Wu Bingbing, professor of China’s Peking
University, asserting ‘In fact, the U.S. is taking double
standard on terrorism.’”
